At CITC clients can access our services virtually through our secure online portal, Owl, as well as via phone. Owl is a secure, encrypted, PHIPA and PIPEDA compliant platform that can be accessed through any web browser. We offer our services to anyone living in Ontario. In addition to individual treatment, we also offer group therapy and skills group through our virtual office. Group therapy allows you to connect with others who have similar problems and goals, and to share your experiences with them and receive social support. Group therapy usually focuses on a specific problem, such as depression or anxiety, or a specific skill set such as mindfulness or parenting. Our skills groups are designed as information sessions for those hoping to gain knowledge in a specific area (e.g., CBT for insomnia). Skills groups are beneficial for those wishing to learn specific tools they can implement into their everyday lives.
Research shows that virtual therapy is as effective as face-to-face therapy and comes with many added benefits. For one, travel time is reduced and access is easier. Clients who live outside of Toronto, who have limited mobility or limited access to transportation, or those who may have busy schedules may be more motivated to participate in online therapy.
