Autism Spectrum Assessment for Adults in Toronto

For some people, connecting with others or navigating daily life can feel challenging. The world may seem too loud, too fast, or too uncertain at times, while routines and specific interests offer stability and meaning. An ASD assessment can help you better understand these experiences and what they might mean for you.

Signs of ASD in Adults

Some people go through life without realizing they’re on the spectrum. Common signs include:

  • Social differences – Difficulty with small talk, eye contact, or reading social cues.
  • Repetitive behaviours – Strong need for routine or specific habits.
  • Sensory sensitivities – Over- or under-reacting to sounds, lights, or textures.
  • Hyperfocus – Deep, intense interest in specific topics.

How Can an ASD Assessment Help?

An ASD assessment isn’t just about getting a diagnosis, it’s about understanding yourself. An assessment helps explain why certain things feel different or difficult and provides guidance on the right support, whether that’s workplace accommodations, therapy, or strategies to navigate life in a way that works for you.

At the Cognitive & Interpersonal Therapy Centre, we offer ASD assessments for adults.

If you’re wondering whether an assessment might help, ask us about our process. We’re happy to walk you through it.

Common Questions About Adult Autism Assessments

Who should consider an ASD assessment?

Many adults seek an assessment if they’ve always felt “different,” struggled in social settings, experienced sensory sensitivities, or have been told by others they might be on the spectrum. Some pursue assessment after a child or relative is diagnosed and they recognize similar traits in themselves.

Our assessments typically include a clinical interview with a psychologist, questionnaires about social communication and daily functioning, and, if possible, input from someone who knows you well. Afterward, we provide feedback, discuss findings, and offer recommendations for support and next steps.

You’ll receive a detailed written report outlining your results, diagnostic impressions (if applicable), and personalized recommendations. This may include therapy options, workplace or academic accommodations, and community resources.

We offer both in-person assessments at our Toronto office and virtual options throughout Ontario. All components of an adult ASD assessment can be completed virtually, if that works best for your schedule.
