Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Children/Adolescents
We currently offer clinical diagnostic assessments and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for children 8+ years of age who are experiencing difficulties with anxiety, emotional regulation (e.g., anger management), or social relationships. CBT is a form of psychotherapy and an effective treatment for children that can produce long-lasting improvements on their mental well-being as demonstrated by empirical evidence. Children will learn to identify, challenge, and change their maladaptive thoughts and behavioural patterns and effectively respond to stressors in their lives. Through CBT skill building children will improve their ability to regulate their emotions, as well as develop a flexible thinking and problem-solving mindset in a variety of situations. Ultimately, CBT aids in optimizing children’s daily functioning and interpersonal relationships.
Therapy may encourage parental involvement and, at times, family sessions are part of the treatment. The typical course of treatment is 8-16 sessions, depending on the nature and severity of the concerns.
