Dr. Carolina McBride
Dr. Carolina McBride
Clinical Psychologist – Owner & Director

I founded the Cognitive and Interpersonal Therapy Centre in 2003 with the vision of creating a place where people could receive compassionate and evidence-based mental health care. Initially, CITC focused primarily on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), recognizing the critical role that both thought patterns and relationships play in emotional well-being. Over the past two decades, I am proud to have seen CITC grow, expanding its approach to integrate a wider range of services and evidence-based therapies. This evolution has ensured that each individual receives the care best suited to their unique needs.

I completed a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Ottawa in 1999. I trained at the Toronto General Hospital (now UHN) and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), where I worked in the Interpersonal Therapy Clinic for 14 years. During my time at CAMH, I also served as the Director of the Internship Program in Clinical Psychology, and had the privilege to mentor the next generation of future Psychologists. My passion for mentoring has continued at CITC, where I have developed a strong practicum program and actively supervise students and emerging Psychotherapists and Psychologists.

Teaching and research have always been important aspects of my work. I have taught at several universities, including the University of Toronto, Ryerson University, the University of Waterloo, and Wilfrid Laurier University. Currently, I am an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto, and always strive to keep up to date on the latest research developments in the field. My own research has focused on attachment and depression, with a particular interest in women’s mental health.

In my clinical work, I am passionate about providing therapy that is both effective and supportive. My approach is rooted in the belief that both cognitive and interpersonal factors play a vital role in shaping our emotional well-being. The way we think about ourselves and our experiences matters, but so do our relationships and connections with others. I aim to integrate both perspectives in my work, helping clients navigate life’s challenges with greater insight, resilience, and support. I am certified in Interpersonal Therapy with the International Society of Interpersonal Psychotherapists (ISIPT) and in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy with the Academy of Cognitive Therapists (ACT). I am also certified in Heart Math, a biofeedback approach, to help clients manage stress.

I am licensed with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO). I am also an active member of the Ontario Psychological Association (OPA), and the Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT). My work is guided by a commitment to evidence-based practice, professional mentorship, and, most importantly, helping individuals navigate life’s challenges with strength and confidence.

Hello, I’m Dr. Devina Daya, a licensed Clinical Psychologist. My scope of practice includes the assessment and treatment of anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, as well as trauma and other adverse experiences. I work with various interpersonal stressors, including grief and loss, life transition and interpersonal conflict and sensitivities. My practice is grounded in a compassionate approach to therapy in a safe, warm and non-judgemental space.

I incorporate evidence-based treatment approaches that are tailored to your presenting concerns. This includes cognitive, behavioural, mindfulness and interpersonal/attachment focused therapy. Together these approaches can be an effective way to manage difficult thoughts, regulate emotions, address unhelpful behaviours, and strengthen your relationships and connections with others. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals and supporting your wellness journey.

Clinical Psychologist

I'm Dr. Jessica Dere and I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 10 years of experience working with people from many different backgrounds who are experiencing a range of difficulties and challenges. I work collaboratively with my clients to build a shared understanding of their concerns, in order to work together to help clients achieve their goals. My work is grounded in a culturally-informed, empathic, client-centered, and evidence-based approach.

I primarily work from a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) approach, while also integrating other evidence-based practices such as mindfulness. I work with people experiencing a variety of mental health difficulties, including major depression, anxiety disorders (e.g., panic disorder, phobias, social anxiety, health anxiety) and significant life stress.

I completed my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Concordia University, after training in several settings in Montreal including St. Mary’s Hospital Centre. I completed my clinical residency in Calgary, working at the Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre and Foothills Medical Centre. Since 2013, I have been a faculty member in the Department of Psychology and Graduate Department of Psychological Clinical Science at the University of Toronto Scarborough. I teach courses in psychology and mental health studies and provide clinical supervision to graduate students in clinical psychology. My academic work is centered around culture and mental health, and this cultural focus deeply informs my clinical practice.

In my practice, I offer client-centered treatment that is tailored to the individual’s unique needs, strengths, and challenges. My approach includes an integration of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, as well as an incorporation of strategies from Mindfulness, Collaborative Problem-Solving, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, the Positive Parenting Program (Triple P), and the Coaching for Confidence Program as appropriate. I enjoy working collaboratively with children, adolescents, adults, parents, and/or families on issues concerning anxiety, depression, adjustment to illness, behaviour problems, stress management, relationship issues, enuresis/encopresis, feeding difficulties, chronic pain, and sleep. I also provide psychoeducational and diagnostic assessments for questions regarding cognitive, learning, attention, and/or socio-emotional difficulties. My overall goal in therapy and assessment is to work closely with my clients to help them gain a better understanding of themselves and provide them with the tools they need to improve their sense of well-being and confidence to thrive in their lives.

I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology (CPA and APA accredited) from Concordia University in 2014 and C.Psych in 2015. Prior to moving to Toronto in 2018, I was a clinical psychologist and assistant professor with the Department of Clinical Health Psychology at the University of Manitoba. I am currently a registered clinical psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) and am affiliated with several professional associations. I provide psychological services to CITC clients as an independent contractor to CITC.

Dr. Niki Fitzgerald
Clinical Psychologist

I’m a clinical psychologist with over 15 years of experience helping people achieve their goals by meeting them where they are, encouraging them to use evidence-based skills and strategies to move towards their goals, and then celebrating all their wins along the way.

I believe that all “problems” make sense based on each person’s unique combination of family factors, upbringing, societal factors and all their life experiences that resulted in them approaching the world as they do. Using a cognitive behavioural basis as a starting point, treatment is tailored to your needs and may include elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Prolonged Exposure, Behavioural Activation or Interpersonal Therapy as they seem appropriate.

Recognizing how hard it can be to share thoughts and feelings with a stranger that might be hard for you to even acknowledge to yourself, I strive to create a warm and welcoming environment that is collaborative, safe, and nonjudgemental with even the occasional infusion of humour.

Through my years as a clinical facilitator of the Road to Mental Readiness Program (R2MR) for two paramedic services, in addition to the assessment and treatment of countless first responders, I have developed a cultural competence in this area. This allows me to work effectively with first responders either injured in the course of their job and are working to return to work in some capacity or who are looking to maintain their well-being over the long haul of their careers. In addition to trauma, I also work with people who are struggling with anxiety, worry, stress, depression, having the relationships they want, are struggling at work or home or in any other area of life.

Lastly, I am someone who actively walks her talk and when I’m not trying to help people achieve their goals, you’ll likely find me outside training to meet my own goals for an upcoming triathalon or running event.

I’m a clinical psychologist with over 13 years of experience helping individuals work through life’s complexities and challenges. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, isolated, or stuck, my hope is to provide the guidance and support you need to move toward healing and growth.

I have extensive experience working with adults to manage a variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, stress and trauma, life transitions, relationship difficulties, sleep issues, grief, and chronic pain. Every person has a unique set of concerns and circumstances, so I tailor our sessions to meet your individual needs and goals.

I use an integrative approach to therapy, drawing from evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, and Schema Therapy. We’ll work together to identify and change problematic life patterns with the aim of empowering you with a set of strategies to enhance and support lasting well-being.

I believe therapy should be supportive and collaborative. I strive to create an environment where your concerns are met with curiosity, compassion, and care, and where you feel empowered to make meaningful changes in your life. With experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, I’m committed to providing culturally sensitive care.

I completed my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of British Columbia. I received training at settings including the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), UBC Hospital, and St. Paul’s Hospital (Vancouver), and worked in private practice settings with various client populations. I’ve taught CBT workshops for health professionals and internationally trained therapists. Prior to my career in Psychology, I completed a Masters in Community Health and Epidemiology at the University of Toronto and worked in research in psychiatric epidemiology and mental health services. I am a member of the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario and the Ontario Psychological Association.

Dr. Diana Lisi
Clinical Psychologist

Hi, I’m Dr. Diana Lisi, a registered clinical psychologist who works with adults navigating life's challenges, including anxiety, low mood, stress, major life transition, or relationship issues. I believe that clients don't have to face these struggles alone and aim to provide a warm, supportive space to explore their experiences with curiosity and compassion.

My training and general approach to treatment is grounded in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), with elements of dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and mindfulness to suit a client's specific needs. I approach therapy as a collaborative process that is built on a strong therapeutic alliance. Together, I aim to help clients gain insight, develop effective coping strategies, and create meaningful and lasting change, helping individuals move towards a more fulfilling life aligned to their values.

I completed my Doctor of Psychology degree at New York University, graduating in 2000. Following that, I returned to Canada, providing a wide range of clinical services to clients of all ages in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Since moving to Toronto, in 2003, I divided my services between the Toronto District School Board, various clinical settings, and various volunteer organizations. The latter have included the Dorothy Ley Hospice and L'Arche, and currently includes YAAACE (Youth Association for Academics, Athletics, and Character Education). YAAACE is a Toronto-based charity dedicated to inner city crime prevention. My most recent clinical assignment involved a supervisory position at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). I have extensive training in the treatment of anxiety disorders, mood disorders (depression/bipolar), personality disorders, behaviour disorders (ADHD and anger control problems), autism disorders, and psychotic disorders. I am primarily trained in cognitive-behaviour therapy and psychodynamic psychotherapy. I frame cognitive-behaviour therapy as changing thinking and psychodynamic therapy as changing awareness. I conceptualize all such perspectives as overlapping and inseparable. Pursuant to such oneness, I have an interest in integrating psychology and spirituality, with a specific focus around helping clients work through the moral emotions of guilt, envy, resentment, and suspicion, drawing on principles of self-compassion, forgiveness, gratitude, and trust. All the while faithfully asserting the higher principles of liberation theology, passionately promoting the protection and expression of people of all creeds, colours, identities, ages, and stages.

Hello, I'm Maliha Ibrahim (She/They), MFT, PhD, a licensed registered psychotherapist in Ontario (RP) and a registered marriage and family therapist (RMFT) nationally, with 15 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families navigate the complexities of life. My approach to therapy is grounded in empathy, systemic psychology, and a deeply collaborative approach to helping my clients achieve their goals.

I specialize in climate psychology, couples and family work, intergenerational trauma, social justice and multicultural therapy as well as management of chronic conditions like mood disorders, anxiety, PTSD, eating disorders and chronic pain. I also specialize in affirmative gender and sexuality work with Queer individuals, gender or sexual minority groups. I utilize a lot of relational and systemic approaches like Attachment-based family therapy (ABFT), Gottman Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO) and Emotionally-focused couples therapy (EFcT) for couples and families while using a blend of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), DBT, narrative therapy, mindfulness, and psychodynamic approaches with individuals. My aim is to create a safe and supportive environment where you feel comfortable exploring the patterns in your thoughts, emotions and behaviours, alongside the context around you and your world, allowing us to work together to accelerate positive change.

My focus is also on increasing clinician competencies and in higher education programming. I serve as Chair of the Masters in Couples and Family Therapy at Yorkville University, teach graduate and doctoral students of counseling psychology and facilitate individual and group supervision for therapists in training. My practice is also informed by recent research evidence, and I have published in over 20 peer-reviewed research journals, written several books chapters in the area of interventions for depression, suicidality, attachment and family therapy, trauma-focused therapies, planetary health, resilience and mental health in minority populations. I have also worked as a senior research consultant and advisor for eminent organizations, including UNICEF, CAMH and the WHO while also working in coordination with several University research centers (University of Toronto, York University, Simon Fraser University, Dalhousie University, University of California (UCLA) and Drexel University, Philadelphia to name a few) on various mental health projects. I look forward to connecting with you.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist who specializes in career counselling. My clients are often at critical points in their lives; they are questioning their careers and asking themselves why they do what they do. They are often feeling unfulfilled, purposeless, and stuck between the pain of staying where they are in their careers, and the pain of dealing with the confusion, stress, and anxiety of figuring out what career comes next. My approach to career counselling draws on psychotherapy which helps clients manage difficult emotions and develop self-awareness, while at the same time, focusing on making strategic, informed decisions with practical action-planning. I also provide psychotherapy on personal issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and interpersonal issues. I draw on evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Interpersonal Psychotherapy.

Registered Psychotherapist

Hello, I’m Aleksandra, a Registered Psychotherapist with a background in research that informs my clinical practice. I bring a deep understanding of neurobiology and its connection to mental health into my work as a therapist. I offer an empathic, compassionate and safe space in which we can collaboratively explore your feelings, thoughts and behaviours as we work towards your therapy goals. My practice focuses on individual therapy with adults, specializing in depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, life transitions, and relationship challenges. Drawing on a variety of evidence-based approaches—including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS)—I tailor therapy to meet your unique needs. Respecting the resilience and lived experience each person brings, I aim to provide knowledge and guidance to help you learn, grow, and feel empowered to take steps towards living the vision you have for your life.

Hello, I’m Edward McAnanama, an Occupational Therapist, Psychotherapist and an associate member of the Canadian Association of Couple and Family Therapy. I have worked in mental health since the late 1980’s and offer individual and couple therapy at CITC.

My practiced focuses on assisting couples or families navigating life transition influenced by mental health challenges, illness, disability, or dementia. Clinically, in addition to my psychodynamic approach, I draw on my group therapy and couple/family therapy experience to bring a systems approach. A systems approach recognizes that individuals are part of a couple and family system that impact and influence each other. Thus, individual change yields change in a couple or family and vice versa. Emotionally Focused Therapy principles and techniques also guide my approach to couple and family therapy. I am an accredited trainer and supervisor in Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), an effective treatment for depression. For bipolar disorder, I apply and integrated Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy (IPSRT).

I believe that most of the work of psychotherapy happens between sessions and to that end collaborate with clients to set realistic and meaningful goals.

I aim to help you navigate life’s challenges while discovering new insights and creating desired change along the way. Therapy is an opportunity to gain fresh perspectives, face difficult emotions and experiences, explore patterns that aren't serving you, and develop new ways of responding to challenges. I strive to help you improve your relationships – both with yourself and with others. I tailor therapy to your needs using a variety of techniques, including Emotion-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Interpersonal Therapy. My approach to therapy focuses on empathy, collaboration, and connection as we work towards your goals.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with a Master of Psychology degree from Adler Graduate Professional School and a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Toronto. I bring acceptance, empathy, warmth, and compassion to my work with clients, creating a safe place for them to become more aware and understanding of their inner experiences, relationships, and behaviours. Using an integrative approach, I draw from cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and psychodynamic therapy approaches to provide psychotherapy that is attuned to each client’s needs and promotes self-acceptance, self-compassion, and emotional growth. Developing more awareness and acceptance of one’s emotions, rather than escaping difficult feelings, is something I value deeply, and I have personally witnessed the freedom this creates to choose healthy and effective responses to daily challenges. My clients and I work together to help clarify their goals and values, and to identify and remove their blocks to living a meaningful and fulfilling life. I work with adults and adolescents with a wide variety of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorder, as well as individuals dealing with significant life stressors, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, and major life transitions. If you’re feeling ready, or even just curious, it would be my privilege to support you in uncovering the strength and wisdom already within you, as you move toward lasting change.

Hello, I'm Tisha, a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) passionate about supporting individuals through life’s challenges with warmth, compassion, and authenticity. I offer a client-centred and integrative approach, drawing from evidence-based modalities such as Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and trauma-informed interventions. My goal is to create a safe and supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to explore your thoughts and emotions with trust and openness.

I have extensive experience working with individuals navigating disordered eating, eating disorders, and body image concerns, as well as those facing trauma, depression, anxiety, major life transitions, and relational challenges. I believe in the power of therapy to help you uncover inner strengths, identify barriers, and foster meaningful, lasting change. Our work together will be tailored to your values and goals, ensuring a pace that feels right for you.

Therapy is a collaborative journey—one of self-discovery, healing, and growth. Whether you're working through a specific challenge or seeking deeper self-understanding, I’m here to walk alongside you with compassion and care as we build the life you envision.

Hello, I’m Scott Boulton, a student therapist at CITC’s practicum training program. I’m also a second-year Doctor of Psychology student at the Adler Graduate Professional School. I work with adults and older adolescents experiencing a variety of challenges, such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, difficulties with relationships, and major life transitions—especially in the context of attention–deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

In therapy, I draw on elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), along with executive functioning coaching when appropriate. My goal in therapy is threefold: To help people gain new and useful perspectives on their problems, to collaborate with them to find solutions, and to support them as they enact those solutions.

Alex Culbert
Clinical Coordinator

As the Clinical Coordinator at the Cognitive & Interpersonal Therapy Centre (CITC), I serve as the first point of contact for clients beginning their therapy journey. With a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology from Queen’s University and a strong foundation in clinical research and crisis support, I bring both academic knowledge and compassionate understanding to this role.

My work focuses on gaining a clear picture of each client’s unique goals, preferences, and therapeutic needs. This helps me ensure clients receive a personalized and well-informed match to a CITC therapist who aligns with their values and desired therapeutic approach.

My background includes hands-on research in psychological disorders, including depression and schizophrenia, as well as research on cognitive functioning and child development. Additionally, I have experience supporting youth in crisis as a trained Crisis Responder with Kids Help Phone. I’ve contributed to multiple research projects, including my honours thesis on children’s blame attribution, and have presented findings at academic conferences.

Above all, I am passionate about making therapy feel accessible and welcoming from the very first interaction. I strive to help clients feel heard, supported, and confident as they take their first step toward growth and healing.
