Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming, especially for students trying to balance academics, friendships, and growing independence. At the Cognitive & Interpersonal Therapy Centre (CITC), located right across from Eglinton Station in midtown Toronto, we specialize in supporting children, teens, and young adults through these important developmental years.
Why Students Seek Therapy
Whether transitioning to high school, navigating university pressures, or adjusting to life away from home, many students experience stress, anxiety, or changes in mood. Therapy can help students:
- Build coping skills for stress, perfectionism, and exam anxiety
- Strengthen communication and relationships with family or peers
- Improve focus and motivation
- Manage symptoms of ADHD, depression, or OCD
- Process grief, trauma, or chronic illness
- Adjust to major life transitions
Our Evidence-Based Approach to Student Therapy
At CITC, we use evidence-based therapies like:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to challenge unhelpful thoughts and build healthy coping strategies
- Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) to improve relationships and social functioning
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help students manage difficult emotions and align with personal values
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma and anxiety
We also offer comprehensive psychoeducational and psychodiagnostic assessments for students who may be struggling academically or need documentation for school accommodations (e.g., ADHD, learning disabilities, anxiety disorders).
